LOCATION: Virginia Beach, Virginia
EMPLOYER: Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital
POSITION: Team Coordinator, Pharmacist
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: Located in the southeastern corner of Virginia, where the state meets the sea, the Virginia Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is the 38th largest in the United States, with a population of over 1.67 million. Virginia Beach has a unique environment. Within minutes, residents and visitors have access to the popular oceanfront resort area, bountiful wildlife preserves and parks, a vibrant financial district, urban amenities, pastoral rural areas, distinctive cultural centers and museums, a variety of military facilities, and neighborhoods as diverse as the people who call the city home.
Since the first American settlers stepped foot on these hallowed shores, Virginia Beach has been a historic meeting place for remarkable events. Look up to the celebrated lighthouses at Cape Henry, retrace the footsteps of our forefathers at First Landing State Park, or call the notable Adam Thoroughgood House home for the day, it’s all here and historic, in Virginia Beach.
Finding great outdoor fun and adventure here is easy. Deciding among the options is the challenge. The waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay are obvious draws, but swimming and beach time is just the beginning. Virginia Beach offers a variety of music and arts venues, a dozen public golf courses, miles and miles of hiking and biking paths, and the ever-growing Town Center is a gathering place offering dining, shopping and the 1,300 seat Sandler Center for the Performing Arts. The Farm Bureau Live Amphitheater is a 20,000 seat outdoor concert venue featuring national acts. Beach Street USA is a summer-long concert along the boardwalk, while all across the city, you can enjoy relaxing outdoor dining and fresh-caught seafood.
Do you have an eye for art? The Contemporary Art Center of Virginia explores the significant art of our time with changing exhibitions from national and international artisits, just minutes from the oceanfront. And for an up-close look at the amazing world of underwater life off the shores, the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center is 700,000 gallons of mystery and entertainment. The touch tanks, exhibits and live animal habitats make it one of the top ten visited museums in the country.
Fishing in Virginia Beach is an experience you’d happily mount over your fireplace. Located at the intersection of the Chesapeake Bay, the Atlantic Ocean, and a variety of freshwater waterways, Virginia Beach offers up a uniquely diverse range of fish and fishing destinations. From world-class off-shore action, to a bounty of coastal species and a fantastic mix of inland, freshwater adventures, it’s no wonder Virginia Beach is considered an angler’s paradise.
Virginia Beach has been blessed with some of Mother Nature’s finest work, beckoning us all to get out and live the life. Miles of pristine beaches, state parks, wildlife trails, and meandering waterways make up an outdoorsman’s paradise that offers a unique opportunity to capture excitement and nature’s beauty all on the same trip. It’s time for you to reconnect, rejuvenate, and reinvent yourself with what comes natural—Virginia Beach.
