LOCATION: Plainview, New York

EMPLOYER: Coram

POSITION: Director, Branch Infusion Operations

WHY YOU’LL LOVE ITPlainview is a small hamlet in located on Long Island in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County, New York. Plainview and it’s neighboring town, Old Bethpage, share their school system, library, fire department, and water district.

Plainview’s history dates back to 1648, when land was purchased because it was considered desirable farming land. The remaining land was purchased in 1695 in a deal called the Bethpage Purchase. When the Long Island Railroad was built, Plainview had an increase in the farming market.

After World War II, many people were trying to leave New York for a more rural area. People moving out of the city resulted in many of the farmers in Plainview to sell their land. Massive development in the area began to take place and turned Plainview into the suburban town that it is now. The population jumped in size, making Plainview change from farmland to a functioning town.

People may think that since Plainview is small that there may not be much to do in the little hamlet of Nassau County, New York. However, Plainview can be fun, relaxing, exciting and unique.
Since Plainview offers access to the many attractions of Nassau County and Long Island, there is plenty to do. First to consider would be the beaches. One whole side of the island offers sandy beaches and plenty of ocean waves. On the other side is Long Island Sound, which offers beautiful views of the water and New York City.

If you are interested in history, then you will be glad to learn that there are eight unique museums near Plainview, including the Old Bethpage living museum, which is a restored and operational village like what may once have been in the 19th century.

Those who enjoy the outdoors will find numerous state parks and nature preserves providing options for camping and hiking. In addition, golf is available at the Bethpage Black Golf Course, well known by the pro golfers as the site of more than one US Open.

You may wish to visit the area known as the Gold Coast, which is the location of numerous manor houses built in the early 20th century by billionaires who lived during the time in US history known as the “gilded age.” Many of these manors and homes are open to tours.

When you choose to vacation or live in Plainview, you will find that there is plenty to do from shopping to sunbathing, from exploring history to catching an IMAX movie and from playing the links to hiking the trails.
