LOCATION: Kalamazoo, Michigan

EMPLOYER: Bronson Healthcare Group

POSITION: Critical Care Clinical Pharmacist

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT:  Welcome to Kalamazoo. A community that effortlessly combines energy and innovation with friendliness and an easy-going attitude. Located in Southwest Michigan, about 2 hours from Chicago, Kalamazoo is home to the nationally recognized Western Michigan University, several colleges and a variety of cultural institutions.

In 1831, Titus Bronson platted a town he named the Village of Bronson. The town was renamed Kalamazoo in 1836 after he was accused of allegedly stealing a cherry tree. Kalamazoo was legally incorporated as a village in 1843 and a city in 1884. Today, several landmarks are named after Bronson including a park and hospital, both located downtown. The name Kalamazoo is derived from either the Potawatomi Indians (originating from the upper Mississippi River) or the Odawa (Ottawa) people who are known as the first people of the Nation.

This place with the memorable name is also brimming with out of the ordinary things to see and do.  World-class museums, colorful ethnic festivals, top-notch arts and entertainment, unique culinary flavors, charming wineries and microbreweries and vibrant downtown scenes minutes from expansive nature trails and sandy shores . . . in short, excitement year round!

Home to research oriented Western Michigan University, as well as major industrial and pharmaceutical corporations, Kalamazoo is famous for innovation. The immense Air Zoo features restored historic aircraft, a flight simulator, a 4-D theater and the Michigan Space Science Center, with 17,000-square-feet of exhibits dedicated to everything space related, from Moon Rocks to Russian space suits.

A vibrant Art Deco downtown sets the stage for quality dining, unique shops and galleries, and live entertainment. In Kalamazoo, you’re never far from lakes and other outdoor recreation, festivals and world-class attractions.

Kalamazoo is often called the Mall City because it was the first city in the nation to build a pedestrian mall! The downtown mall is still the heart and soul of the unique shops that call Kalamazoo home. Funky gifts. High quality clothing. Hot grills. Fine furniture. Whatever you are looking for, Kalamazoo’s got it!

Come experience the big city benefits and small town feel that make Kalamazoo so appealing.
